The history of Indian clubs
Indian clubs have been swung for centuries — first as weapons, then as tools for strength and discipline. Originating in ancient Persia and India, these wooden clubs were used by warriors to build grip, shoulder strength, and coordination. Over time, the practice evolved into a form of exercise called vajra-musti and was woven into martial training.
British soldiers encountered Indian clubs in the 19th century and brought them back to Europe, where they became a Victorian fitness craze. Club swinging even featured in the early Olympic Games. Though they fell out of fashion for a while, Indian clubs have made a comeback — appreciated today for their graceful flow, mobility benefits, and meditative rhythm.
